Proverbs 31 woman

Although I'm not a wife yet and I know I won't be for a good loooooong while, a Proverbs 31 woman is something we as women (married or not) should all strive to be.  I don't know about the making and designing of all those clothes...don't think I really have to worry too much about that...it is the 21st century, after all!  On a more serious note, I do, however, know that the woman that this passage describes is something I want to work towards.  I'm still a work in progress and I know that I've got a long road ahead of me, but I know that with effort, God's help, learning to really be comfortable with myself, becoming independent, and putting ALL my faith and trust in Him (easier said than done), I will eventually be a good woman.  *Side-note* I read a few different versions of this passage and I really liked The Message; easy to understand, but it still retains all of the important, "good stuff."


Proverbs 31:10-31

The Message (MSG)
Hymn to a Good Wife
 10-31 A good woman is hard to find,
   and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve,
   and never has reason to regret it.
Never spiteful, she treats him generously
   all her life long.
She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,
   and enjoys knitting and sewing.
She's like a trading ship that sails to faraway places
   and brings back exotic surprises.
She's up before dawn, preparing breakfast
   for her family and organizing her day.
She looks over a field and buys it,
   then, with money she's put aside, plants a garden.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,
   rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She senses the worth of her work,
   is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She's skilled in the crafts of home and hearth,
   diligent in homemaking.
She's quick to assist anyone in need,
   reaches out to help the poor.
She doesn't worry about her family when it snows;
   their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
She makes her own clothing,
   and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
Her husband is greatly respected
   when he deliberates with the city fathers.
She designs gowns and sells them,
   brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
Her clothes are well-made and elegant,

When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say,
   and she always says it kindly.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household,
   and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her;
   her husband joins in with words of praise:
"Many women have done wonderful things,
   but you've outclassed them all!"
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
   The woman to be admired and praised
   is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.

Fall Break!

Haven't posted since July, but I guess that's because I'm so busy!  Life is going really great!  There are some small things that could be better, but God has blessed me so much that I can't possibly complain.  I'm in the middle of my last semester of classes and next semester I student teach! So nervous!
I've decided to make the last real semester of my senior year a fun one.  Yes, I still work hard, but I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with my friends!  Since I haven't been on since July, I have lots of fun summer adventures to share as well as some school fun.  Unfortunately, my camera is currently broken, so I don't have as many pictures as I would like, but here are some!

I've Learned:

I am procrastinating writing a paper...

Never expected this semester to fly by like it did!  I'm in the top 5% of the School of Music and I'm being inducted into Pi Lambda Kappa, an honors society for musicians.  I'm pretty happy about that and definitely didn't expect it! 

It's almost time for Guys and Dolls rehearsals which is really exciting.  I think it is a great cast and we will all get along really well!  Guys and Dolls is one of my favorites for sure. 

I'll be switching jobs in a couple weeks; I'll just be moving next door to the Boiler Room...we'll see how that goes. Honestly, I'm a little nervous, but I guess it'll be fine.  I can do anything for a year.  I'm really excited about my real summer job! I'll be working with a group of 10-12 year olds at summer ed-venture camp and teaching them about theatre and music.  I may be calling some people *cough cough Scotty cough cough* for some tips. :D  I think that it is going to be a blast though, and we even get to do a little play at the end of the five weeks for the whole camp!  Gotta start looking for some scripts soon. 

Speaking of plays, I went to go see Shrek the Musical last night.  What a fun, colorful, silly show!  I don't think it lost my attention for a minute. 

On another note, I'm turning 21 in exactly three weeks.  That is scary and depressing; I SO don't feel 21 but I guess it is enevitable so I will enjoy my birthday!  I think Timothy has something planned for the weekend of my birthday but he refuses to tell me and the suspense is killllling me.

Also, I am hooked on consignment shopping...not sure why.  I guess it's just fun to find something cute, in good shape, good brand for half the cost or less than what you would pay for it in the mall. 

Anyway, I guess I should stop procrastinating now...  :)

One question...WHY?


Why on EARTH would anyone buy something like this.  I could understand maybe a little camo on your garter or camo ribbon on your shoes, but not an entire dress of camo and hunter orange.  To each their own...but this...this is just too awful for words.

The past 6 months

There's been ups and downs (and in life what isn't an up or down), but overall, the past six months have been some of the best I've ever experienced.  I've grown as an individual and also in relationship building. 

I've learned:
It's not always about me, but I really appreciate when it is. 
Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. 
How to let go and let God, which is often times harder than it seems.  We want what we want, but he may have something entirely different planned, that is SO much more amazing than what we wanted. 
Also, God sure does know how to surprise us.  :D 
How to keep my head up even when times get crappy (in the past week I've grown in that skill)
To value the time that you do have with people. 
Not to ask for patience.  God will give you something to be patient about (and it's not always fun). 
To be more patient.  Something I've lacked in the past. 
How to be a better friend. 

This list is only part of what I've learned and experienced  lately.  I feel so thankful...so blessed to have WONDERFUL people in my life that love me and care about me. 

Especially this one special person... 

Six months ago, I would have never even guessed that you'd be a part of my life.. other than making you mocha frappes and you telling me a few times that I should wipe the tables before I sweep...but I'm so glad God wanted you in my life.  You've shown me a lot about myself and a lot about how to love.  I love spending time with you and being your girlfriend.  I think you're amazing and I hope that God sees fit to allow you to stay in my life for a good long time. 

I love you so much, Timothy!  (Even if you don't read this) :D
